This mammoth city and port was made 2000 years prior by Herod the Great out of appreciation for the Roman ruler, Augustus Caesar. A great part of the Roman city remains, including a reservoir conduit, theater, and sections of land of exhumed houses, mosaics and royal residences. In the twelfth century CE, Caesarea was reproduced as a huge Crusader fortification, whose canal, balustrades towers despite everything stand.
